Your data on Fii Fulɓe
You can learn without an account. The site does not follow you across the web and never sells any data.

Your choices stay with you
Your Fula variety, translation language and learning profile are saved in your browser (local storage), not on our servers. A technical cookie remembers the site language when you change it. You can clear all of it from your browser settings.
Cookie-free audience measurement
To learn which pages are useful, we count visits with Umami, an open-source tool we host ourselves. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address and cannot identify you or follow you on other sites. Only aggregate figures are kept: pages viewed, country, language and device type, referring site, and a few actions such as playing an audio clip or choosing a variety.
“Do Not Track” is honoured
If your browser sends the “Do Not Track” signal, no visit is counted. Common ad blockers may also disable this measurement: the site works just the same.
No advertising services
No ads, no embedded social networks, no third-party trackers. Statistics are only visible to the project team.
With an account (optional)
The account is only used to find your choices (and, later, your progress) on all your devices. Everything above still applies with an account.

Data processed with an account
When you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook”, we receive from that service, with your consent:
- your email address (only if the service has verified it);
- your display name (which you can change at any time);
- the technical identifier of your account with that service.
We also store your learning preferences (Fula variety, translation language, audience, site language), the dates your account was created and last used, and, once these features exist, your progress and favourites.
We do not retrieve your profile picture. If you use both Google and Facebook, Google is linked automatically to an existing Fii Fulɓe account when Google confirms the same verified address; Facebook is only linked to an existing account when you ask for it from My account.
We never access your contacts, posts or other Google or Facebook data, and we never post on your behalf. No password or access token from these services is kept.
Purposes and legal bases
- Providing the account and syncing your choices across devices: performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Securing the service (sessions, abuse prevention, technical logs): legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Cookies
Only strictly necessary cookies, which require no consent:
ff_learner: your account session (30 days, HttpOnly, secure);ff_oauth_state: protects sign-in during the round trip to Google or Facebook (10 minutes);ff_session: reserved for members of the editorial team;- a language cookie, if you change the site language.
Audience measurement (Umami) sets no cookies.
Retention
- Account data: until you delete it.
- Sessions: at most 30 days after your last sign-in.
- Technical backups: fully erased within 14 days of a deletion.
Recipients and hosting
Only the Fii Fulɓe team has access, for the purposes of the service. Technical providers: the API and database server (dedicated server), Netlify (website), Cloudflare (delivery network and protection). Google and Facebook are only used to identify you.
Your rights
At any time, from the My account page, you can:
- view and download all your data (JSON file) — rights of access and portability;
- correct your display name — right to rectification;
- delete your account and all its data — right to erasure (see Delete my account and data).
